She says, as we all know that water is the greatest gift of nature. Humans are exploiting this precious natural resource with the passage of time. Water pollution has become a serious problem for our world. She explains what is water pollution? According the Wikipedia, “Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater). Water pollution occurs when pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds.”
Below are few water pollution facts and tips that will raise your knowledge:
1. The contaminated water is the leading cause of death in children under 5 years (90% death due to diarrhea)
2. Over 1.5 billion people have no access to healthy and clean water.
3. About 4 million people die each year due to water related diseases occurring in developing countries 98% of deaths
4. The majority of freshwater (68%) of the planet is frozen (glaciers).
5. Infections caused by lack of access to clean water have claimed more lives than any war.
6. 70% of fresh water used in Agriculture worldwide.
7. 90% of the water used in developing countries via returned to rivers without any treatment.
8. Showering 5 minutes means the amount of water consumed by a resident of a developing country throughout the day.
9. Wash hands can decrease the chance of death from diarrhea by up to 35%.
